Certifications
Ocee Design, as part of the Ocee International Group, is committed to reducing our impact on the environment and ensuring excellent customers satisfaction. The best way we see these focus areas met, is to manage our environmental aspects and the quality of our products in a formalised way and to obtain relevant certificates on this.
In regards to environment, we have held the ISO14001 certificate since 2004 and more recently obtained our company FSC(R) certificate and product focused EU Ecolabel certificate. In regards to quality, we have held our ISO9001 certificate since 1994.

FSC®
Forest Stewardship Council® has a mission to improve global forest management. In the worldwide fight against deforestation, FSC has developed 10 principles focusing on legal compliance, labour standards, indigenous people’s rights, community relations, environmental benefits and values, planning and monitoring and conservation efforts.
As a furniture manufacturer, we understand the importance of sustainable forestry. All timber used in products complies with the UK and EU Timber Regulations to ensure no illegal logging involvement. We don’t want to just stop there, though, which is why we have obtained the FSC certification, to ensure that we are contributing to global sustainable forest management and active biodiversity replanting schemes.

Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme (FISP)
FISP is an independently certified sustainability programme, aimed at integrating and assessing the three pillars of sustainability within organisations. There are three sections to the certification – legal compliance, environmental management and sustainability, as well as social responsibility. Every two years the company is audited to assess compliancy with the FISP scheme, as well as having the opportunity to demonstrate improvements we’ve achieved since the last audit. The audit report will be used as a basis for where to focus efforts of improvement. In 2018, we scored 76%. In 2020, we scored 88% since we adopted our new sustainability strategy and implemented actions to support this. This jump in score reinforced the work we have been doing and we hope to continually improve this score year-on-year.

EU Ecolabel
The objective of the EU Ecolabel, as the official European ecolabel, is to reduce the overall environmental impact from production and consumption of goods. The EU Ecolabel looks at the entire journey of the product and the environmental issues that arise along the way – for the benefit of people, the environment and the earth’s resources.
So far, the following products at Ocee Design EU Ecolabel-certified with EU Ecolabel:
FourSure® 44, FourSure® 88, FourSure®90, FourSure® 105 in the colours “Anthracite” and “Ebony Black”.
EU Ecolabel-certified furniture must meet a long list of strict requirements focusing on stages throughout the entire life cycle of the product, including:
- Minimum content of environmentally harmful substances – to spare nature and environment
- Minimum content of hazardous substances – to limit the release of gases that could be harmful to the user
- Reduced emission of allergenic substances i.e. formaldehyde from wooden boards – the requirements are stricter than the ones of the law and protect the people who manufacture the furniture as well as those who use them
- Product warranty of 5 years including all parts – the environmental impact is biggest during the production phase, and long durability, therefore, helps to limit environmental impact

ISO 14001
The international standard for environmental management, ISO 14001, was launched in 1996 by The International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO is a cooperation between 153 national institutes of standards, and is the world’s leading environmental management standard. The standard was last updated in 2004.
With a certified ISO 14001 environmental management system, the company can document that its processes, activities and qualifications focus on minimising the external environmental impacts.
The standard therefore requires/demands that the company commits itself to:
- Conforming with environmental legislations
- Preventing pollution
- Constantly improving their environmental actions
The standard hereafter describes the elements in a management system which will enable the company to meet these obligations:
- Environmental policies
- Planning
- Implementation and operation
- Control and corrective actions
- Managerial audit

We are motivated to address risks and opportunities for improvements, and we are determined to act on these. We are constantly surveying our customers satisfaction and trends on the marked, to ensure that we align with these, and that we are in the forefront with new trends and requests to our furniture.
